This one is a short work week, and with all the holiday cooking and prepping, I do not see a chance for me to write any thoughtful d’var Torah. I have decided to leave you with the words of my colleague, Dr. Ackerman, again, as I don’t think I can say anything better.
The only thing I’d like to point out is this verse:
ט כִּי חֵלֶק יְהוָה, עַמּוֹ:יַעֲקֹב, חֶבֶל נַחֲלָתוֹ. |
9 For the portion of the LORD is His people, Jacob the lot of His inheritance. |
As much as our Parshah is predicting all the horrible events in case we stray (and, boy do we!), this is the statement of our eternal connection to Gd – both in good and bad times. We ARE His lot, He is with us, always – whether showering us with blessings or admonishing us for the wrongdoings. It is entirely in our hands to choose what it will be in the new year, 5778.
Let us choose wisely!
Shana Tova!
